DLink DWL-650

I'm trying to use this software with my desktop system with a DWL-650 in a PCI adapter but the software can't find the card or something. I know it all works, I just can't seem to get the Netstumbler software to recognise it.
Any ideas? or is this software just for cards in a PCMCIA slot?

Prism-II chipset

Too bad. The Prism-II is _the_ chipset of choice for AirSnort users (Linux only)

http://airsnort.sourceforge.net/

other cards using Prism-II, and thus unsupported by Netstumbler, are as follows:

Addtron AWP-100
Bromax Freeport
Compaq WL100
GemTek (Taiwan) WL-211
Linksys WPC11
Samsung SWL2000-N
SMC 2632W
Z-Com XI300
Zoom Telephonics ZoomAir 4100
LeArtery Solutions SyncbyAir LN101
D-Link DWL-650 (the card that started this thread)

Compaq WL100

Compaq WL100 seems to be obsolete and not sold anymore. At least it's not listet at Compaq'a site. Compaq now use the WaveLAN-chipset (relabeled Orinoco-cards).

Don't forget that most Prism based cards are crappy RF-wise. The Dlink is perhaps the worst example. Linksys is up there as well. Stick to Orinoco cards, or Cisco.

Nonesuch

You mention that Prism cards are lacking in RF, are there any cards that are better than others?

I know they won't work with Netstumbler, I am looking for a Prism card for promiscuous mode under a Unix.

I am using an SMC under Linux and it seems to be OK.

IMHO the best prisim based card is the Zoom 4105. It is the only Prisim based card with an external antenna connection.
