I have gotten the AP details! What now!
Havinbg been following all the news regarding "war driving" I took to the streets of London, UK and was amazed to discover that netstumbler has uncovered as many as 35 networks in the space of an hour in central london.
Now what happens? How do I surf the net while enjoying the delighted of unsecure wireless networks? What do I need to set up on my ME operating system to gain access? Well done to everyone at Netstumbler for the amazing piece of software. Cheers GK |

Wow, lots of Ap's
My brother lives in California, and on his drive to work (ten minute drive), he found 124 access points. AMAZING! Although this is a technology soon to be removed...or replaced by bluetooth, so enjoy while it lasts!
![]() Also, i got a question, does netstumbler work on WinME with a wavelan wireless bronze encryption? Thanks for any help! See ya for now. |

Bluetooth?!
Why does everyone seem to think that luetooth is a replacement for 802.11?! It's not, Bluetooth is SHORT range comms - like from the microwave to the 'fridge. NOT from one PC across the street to another. (ahem) the two technologies aren't supposed to be competitors although they may screw up each other's bandwidth. I can't recall which one loses the most bandwidth in the presence of the other but it might have been Bluetooth. Can you say Denial Of Service? :-(

Under no circumstances is 802.11x going to be phased out anytime soon.
802.11x is here to stay. yes 802.11b has its security issues, but if you have had a chance to read any of the updates in regards to the newer revisions of the 802.11 standard, we should hopefully see 802.11a come out using not only a new and improved security mechanism, but a new radio spectrum slot to alleviate any interference (5.8ghz compared to the 2.4 in 802.11b) should be interesting ![]() |
