Hmm, there is an interesting contrast between the most popular SSIDs found by yourself and me. Living in the same country, as we do, you'd have thought there may be more of a similarity.

It could be an interesting demonstrator of the North/South divide (although both our areas thought of as "the south" and within the subburbs of central london, by the recent report.), this is something I'm trying to think about on a website I'm putting together (almost).

I've got some cool images to demontrate, but, I wont peak early with them yet. I'd like to compare Britain on a regional basis (initialy just north and south), so, if anyone has a fairly recent set of 750 + access points (with GPS) they'd like to contribute, please let me know.

belkin54g doesn't show up much in my area...interesting how they're penetrating the UK market better. the earlier belkin AP's use WLAN, but they're not particularly common, either.

Hmmm, I blame a local computer shop, Novatech.

Thay have the monopoloy on computer shops in my local area, and sell the belkin54g quite cheap: http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s...html?F5D7230UK

One of the reasons I blame Novatech is because beermuppet reports different results in his area. I think Belkin are penetrating the market thanks to this shop. Although, there is the oppertunity for other socio-economic reasons for this difference.

that's cheap? ouch! i feel for you guys in europe. those things can be had for about $30 after rebate here. lots of 11b setups w/ router and 1 client card sell for $10 or free AR now too.

$10 for a wireless router and card? That hurts!

With exchange rates, and all, that works out to be about £5, or less than an hours work for many people.

But yes, stuff costs much, much, more over here.

Just a quick question, how much does a USB adapter cost over there? Thinking of getting one for £18, new, that's quite cheap.

Well, 0 of any currency is a good price! We don't do rebates over here, I don't think I've ever seen one. They confuse me.

Rebates are a crap shoot at best, I try to avoid them unless an item is a reasonably good deal before the rebate. I've only been burned twice, but CompUSA took me for a significant amount on a monitor. That was the last time I shopped there.

true. very true. and a huge waste of time when lots of items need 3 separate rebates. but i've only been burned twice (once by CompUSA for $100 on a laptop...ouch). overall, i think i've come out way ahead, though. i can't remember the last time i paid for a spindle of 100 CD-R's... i always only pay tax (free shipping) from staples or office depot.

I'll send you my access point list if its any help - I have around 700 ish (maybe less). No Novatechs round here incidentally. Officially I am in the North, around 10 miles over the border between north and south (a small village in leicestershire apparently).
