I have an emap and a dell 8000

The trick is to boot the system without the GPS, start NS and then select com2, plug in and switch back to com1 and all shall be revealed.

Make sure you are using NMEA format.

What gps and wireless cards is everyone using

I just ordered the orinoco gold.
and i was looking to purchase a GPS
what is the right one to get...
and what is the best for the money...

Another question does netstumbler automatically log all of the networks it finds or do you have to keep saving the file
as you drive around...

It will continue to log as you go. You might use the "save early, save often" tactic to ensure you don't lose data if something bad happens. As to GPS, I bought one for this project. I supose you could try to go cheap and pick something up on ebay. Just make sure it outputs NMEA. I got the Garmin etrex.

Mouse issues and GPS suggestions

I too had the Problem with the mouse (Gateway touchpad) going nuts on boot into WINXP. No GPS plugged in at boot and its all good...

As for the GPS, Bass pro shops have the best prices on Etrex units... and they have been having sales recently.

Etrex standards go for about $130 normally + $30 pc cable ($50 for one with cig adptr) but i got mine during a sale so I got the Etrex-V w/ waas for $180 total (pc cable included) The Waas makes a huge difference... it really does. I can get down to 5ft accuracy, but usually its 12-40. The non wass units is 50ft plus.

What good is WAAS?

From my point of view, unless you stick your GPS right on top of the AP, you're coord's are only going to be an estimated area. So WAAS doesn't give you any increase in accuracy in regards to where the AP is. You just want to find where you can detect the AP's signal.

I had the same prob with my Dell. I boot my computer with the cable hooked up, after I am fully booted I start "Stumbler" and turn on my eTrex Legend.

By the way at GPSdiscount.com I got a new eTrex Legend with the PC cable for $207.00
