New to NETSTUMBLER.com
Hey, just dropping everyone a line. My town (galesburg, Illinois) is going to be getting wireless soon. In 2 major points. 1. Carl Sandburg College, and 2. Tri-Loutions (www.galesburg.net), so i thought of the implecations wireless brought with it and started to fall in love, while i myself dont have the equipment (@ the moment) to do any wireless exploring i would still like to learn as much as possible.

Bluetooth != 802.11
Bluetooth is O an issue. BlueTooth is a technology for SHORT range comms - it's NOT a competitor with 802.11.
As for your town only having two access points - don't bet on it :-) I'd be willing to bet that if you drove aorund withan 802.11 card and a decent antenna that you'd find lot's more sites that no one realizes are there and that might not be very well protected (sigh). /soapbox Like cordless phones and baby monitors people think that just because their little receiver can't go more than 20feet without losin signal that others can't pick them up either. That's pretty stupid but there you are! Kripes, baby monitors are worse than 802.11 stuff - it's like bugging your own home. And be careful about warning anyone you might pickup like that too - they tend to get VERY angry when you point out they've been stupid and blame YOU for THEIR problems. This sort of thing is why I've been very hesitant to warn any of the 802.11 sites I've found that are screwed up.... \soapbox Anyway, probably lot's more wirelees around you than you realize.. |
