Search speed differences??
I am curious to know if the search speed will make a big difference in how many aps i find while driving around.
I currently have it set to fastest and have found about 200+ aps in 2 days. Would i be bette roff setting it to slow when im driving in familiar areas or driving slower? |

As I understand it, subject to being wrong, Netstumbler broadcass pleas to get onto a network. When you speed up the scan it cycles faster. Netstumbler also has an option to vary it's speed with your driving speed using the GPS. This is what I use - when you drive fast(er) but cycle slowly it's possible you'll be scanning a different channel and pass by when you would've normally found it. I'm pretty sure there's a downside to scanning too fast too in that it might have stopped listening and moved on by the time an AP responds but I'm not sure this is likely. More likely you'll get into an area with many APs all on various channels and that it will get very confusing if you go too fast. (shrug)
I scan moderatly fast with the vary scan speed with vehicle speed thing turned on. When in doubt I scan faster rather than slower. Does that make sense to everyone or are there better ways to do this? Not really been talked aboutmuch that I can recall. |
