Trouble Running Scripts

I seem to be having some problems running .VBS scripts in NetStumbler. No matter which script I try to run, I constantly receive an error message that says 'Failed to create script engine. Cannot execute script.'.

I downloaded sever scripts from this Forum into C:\Program Files\Network Stumbler, and tried to run them from within the Scripting tab in the programs Options window. For type, I choose External Script, then hit browse. From the drop down list box at the bottom, I choose VBScript Files, then choose my script. As soon as I hit Apply, the above error shows up.

Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to download something prior to trying to run these? As far as I can tell I'm doing everything right. Anyone know of a way around this?

Thanks.

Which scripts are you trying to run? Also, which os/version of NS are you running.

OS is WinXP, Netstumbler 0.4.0 build 554.

Some scripts I tried.... (all taken from the scripts section of this forum)

Master Script
Marius's MapPoint plus Speech for Ns 0.4
The DigLe/NS Integration Script
TrackNS

All fail, therefor I believe this is not an issue with the scripts as much as it's another issue, most likely some small and stupid detail.

Also, I run Norton AV on that laptop, but have tried turning off Auto-Protect and Script Blocking, as well as shutting it down altogether. No change.

Basic question, but do you have the VB script engine installed?

Basic questions are good, as this probably has a basic solution.

As far as the VB Script Engine, isnt that included in WinXP? If so, I have not uninstalled or disabled it.

Currently, .vbs files are associated with C:\windows\system32\wscript.exe. So, again, I assume I have it. Would I be correct?

Ahh sorry, missed it up there... Looks like you need to re-install the scripting package.

For shits and giggles, I hit up Microsoft.com and searched for 'VBScript' and found an install for the latest scripting stuff. Downloaded it, installed it, rebooted... and, the same thing happens.

Decided to just see if my laptop is tweaked, so I download NetStumbler and some scripts onto the desktop as well. The desktop doesnt have a wireless card, but we should still be able to test the script. Same errors.

I'm totally at a loss. I suppose I could just be doing something wrong, but I dont think I am. Any other ideas?

Edit: I'm close to formatting and reinstalling the laptop. Out of curiousity, these scripts do run under Netstumbler on an XP Pro machine?

Ok, so I dont know what's up.

Is there anything EXTRA that is needed to run these scripts? I ask cuz I just did a completely clean install of WinXP Pro and they still wouldnt work. Then I did a completely clean install of Win2k Pro and it still wouldnt work.

The only thing loaded during each install are a couple drivers, MapPoint, and NetStumbler.

Is there any guide on how to use these scripts? I mean, I'm not dumb by any stretch, and the interface is straightforward, so I believe I'm doing it right..... I just dont understand how everyone else can use the scripts just fine except me. Yesterday, I wouldve thought that my OS install was just fubar'd or something, but after a clean install of both WinXP and Win2k, that clearly cant be the case. Any other ideas?

EDIT: FYI, XP version was SP1a, 2k was SP4, if that matters. Only things installed were the Dell ATI drivers for the vid card, on-board ethernet drivers, and the latest Orinoco drivers.

Well I can't think of anything unusual. I run it with XP Pro SP1 and 2K SP4 and only had to install the speech SDK on 2K.

I know this is getting extreme, and I thank anyone who's replied for their time. You mind if I ask you a couple things?

For example:

What OS?
What NetStumbler version?
What script are you running?
Where is NetStumbler installed to?
Where are the scripts located?

I'd be interested in trying the EXACT script someone else uses so I know it's just not a bad script. I guess I'm just trying to elminate some small and stupid detail.

Well, I moved scripts and installation directories around and am still getting the same error. I am totally stumped and have no idea. Apparently nobody else has run into this issue. It's frustrating me to no end too. I do thank those have taken the time to try to help.

Does anyone know of anyone who I could contact who might be able to figure this out? Or is there another part of the forum where some knowledgable people are that might know?

Also, just for fun, I took a screenshot of the error I'm getting. The error pops up as soon as I hit 'Apply', and it pops up twice, one immediately following the other.

Anyway, I have no idea.
