What do the symbols mean in NS?

I have a linksys AP and my current channel is 6. NS shows it as "6*". I have a friend with a trendware (maybe dlink) AP and his is also on ch 6 but his shows up as "6+". (minus the quotes of course). Any ideas what the + and * mean? Is the signal bleeding over to another channel?

* means you are connected to the network right now
+ means you have been connected recently
