GPS logging software ?

My netstumbler laptop isn't powerfull enough to do a real-time track in something like mappoint, but what I'd like is an application to record periodically (every x seconds?) my current position. I'd be using something like comfoolery to split the gps between netstumbler and the app.

Later I'd be loading the ns & gps track info on my more powerfull desktop so I could see the path I've travelled and the various APs.

Any idea if there are simple apps for this ? I would guess there are a ton of windows freeware apps for this but I can't seem to find one

ummmmmmm

Why aren't you using netstumbler to record the AP's GPS position then just import them into mappoint when your done . . . that's how i do it . . . no need to be runnign mappoint while driving unless you think your going to get lost.

If you have a GPS that can do tracks, just load the track off the gps when you are done, this will take some load off the computer.

Read the post above yours, he's after tracks. You know, lines that show you what roads you've been down. You're advice will get him points showing him where APs are. IE, not what's requested.

King Ice Flash has a good idea, let the GPS do all the work and simply download it when your done. I always make those funky tracks with my Gecko.

Gps

Ok I've got the gps downloading the track into Stumbverter, but its not actually showing anything on the map. Am I being a bit dense here ? The colour is set for the track in the settings but I don't actually see anything displayed.

I dont think Stumbverter deals with tracks.

Below is taken right from the Stumbverter web page.

StumbVerter is a standalone application which allows you to import Network Stumbler's summary files into Microsoft's MapPoint 2004 maps. The logged WAPs will be shown with small icons, their colour and shape relating to WEP mode and signal strength
You have to dump the track data right into MapPoint (if I'm not mistaken) from the GPS.
