Locating info about clients in area

I want to be able to find out how many clients are in range of my wireless network, and get their mac addresses. Can this be done with netstumbler? I don't think it can do it. Kismet doesn't seem to work with my card. Is there another program I can use to capture packets in windows?

Edit: I have an AirPlus card (TI ACX111 chipset) and a D-Link DWL-G630 card to work with.

Netstumbler detects AP's, not clients connected to those AP's. If you are the owner of your AP then you should be able to turn on logging to see what clients have connected to it. It would probably be good if you RTFM'ed.

Thanks for such a helpful post. I don't want to find the clients already connected, I want to find the ones out in the open that may be trying to get into my network.

Then turn on what logging you have available and run something like AiSnare. What you are describing makes about as much sense as writing down all the license numbers of cars that MIGHT run into yours. Anyone thats worth half a shit will have spoofed their MAC before "trying to get into" your network so a list of MAC's is pointless. Running AirSnare will alert you when a non-friendly MAC attempts a connection.

Well you're right. Nevermind then. My belkin router just logs who gets a DHCP lease. Isn't it possible to turn off DHCP and specify an IP within the router's range, once associated? And not be detected that way? Just wondering.

Thats why you would want to run AirSnare (it's free).
