MapPoint Magazine Forum

For those interested in using, making web pages with, programming for, or scripting for any version of MapPoint, there is a good forum to get into. It is hosted by MP2K Magazine. Go to:
http://mp2kmag.com/mappoint/discussion/index.asp

We now return you to your regularly scheduled stumbling...

Late reply...interesting site...maybe i can find answers as to why mappoint is such a POS when it makes a webpage of maps. Of course I havent tried 2004 yet, but the original html only worked in IE.

Microsoft works hard to cripple interoperability with non-Microsoft products. It recently cost them $12 million.

There seem to be a lot of scripters and programmers on that forum. Don't seem to be any MSFT employees, though. Hopefully, they lurk and see what their client base is bitching about for future releases.

MS does pay attention to MP2KMAG. In fact, they asked readers what they would like to see in MP2004 when it was in early beta.

Unfortunately, the repeated request for the ability to keep the basic map/roads data current or user ability to mod it STILL is not implemented. And is still only a maybe for them. Sorry, but it's my biggest gripe with the program.

The base data is licensed from Navtech, so its unlikely that they will let you modify that.

However, the request to input data other than through pushpins or joins to existing data has been considered over the years and I think there was some code to add esri shape files a while back, but I think they really want to push the MP .NET as the platform for that and keep MP2k products as consumer products.
