Mappoint "weather map" type display
Does anyone know if there is a way to have the signal strength and or SNR data incorporated into the mapping process to allow not just pinheads where data was collected, but to actually show various colors for signal strength? Sort of like a thermal image shows different colors for heat levels. That would REALLY make for some sweet maps.

Yes, it's possible, but not with mappoint....
Google around and search here. There was/is a University study of Wi-fi networks that makes maps using Ariel photos and uses some RF propagation software and Arcview GIS...

Yes, you can fake something like that in mappoint. Mappoint does not let you bring in your own polygonal areas, it only lets you add data through pushpins.
here are the basic steps: 1. Dump out the full log, not just the summary file, parse it into a format that can be easily read such as comma delimited text 2. sort the data by mac address, this represents 1 AP, 3. for each ap either create a single comma delimited text file, or you can do this in excel with each ap in a worksheet. 4. Use the data mapping wizard, use multiple symbol, add in your data for each ap and set the symbols based on signal strength, |
