Neighbour's AP interference

Maybe one of you guys can help me out..

I have a Toshiba laptop with a Linksys wireless card that accesses my network and the internet through a Linksys router. Everything works ok. I can
surf the net and share files between my desktop PC and my laptop.

What is bothersome however is that while I'm surfing the net on my laptop with the wireless card, I get a message bubble indicating that 'multiple networks are available, click to view'. I then lose my connection to the net until it re-establishes connection and gives me an IP address. This happens intermittetly and when I view the networks that are available I do see another AP (my neighbours).

I have configured my card to check only channel 1 and have entered my SSID in the SSID field etc.. Still every now and then I get the bubble that pops up telling me that more than 1 network is available and I lose my internet connection and have to wait about 30-40 seconds for it to re-establish connection to my network and get an IP address. Of course if I'm downloading anything it stops and I have to start all over again.

How do I set things up to only see my router and forget anything else coming in so I dont lose connection.??

Any help would be greatly appreciated...if I have not provided enough info pls just let me know.

Thx all

(Thread moved to correct forum. The question has nothing to do with NetStumbler.)

Disable WZC.

THX Thorn

Have disabled WZC. Now I'll wait and see if I get the bubble pot up again.

Thx again

Also, enable WEP and tell your computer to "only connect to encrypted networks", or something,

I think, instead of using the tinfoil hats to keep the aliens from reading our minds, you could line the entire room with tinfoil. It will stop both your signal from leaving the room, and your neighbor's from affecting your laptop. In addition, you will have a futuristic and shiny room. It will also keep the aliens from reading our minds.

Wait until you hook the amp to your AP. You will have the worlds largest microwave oven.

unless you already fixed it.

In Windows XP Service Pack 1, Microsoft changed the authentication process for networks that use 802.1x authentication. If the 802.1x authentication does not complete properly, the connection is dropped. To resolve this issue, configure your wireless network connection so that it does not use 802.1x authentication. To do this, follow these steps:

Click the Start button, select Connect To, click Show all connections, and then double-click your wireless network adapter.
On the General tab, click Properties.
Click the Wireless Networks tab.
Under Preferred Networks, click your home network, and then click Properties.
Click Data encryption (WEP enabled).
Click the Association tab, and then click to clear the Network Authentication (Shared mode) check box and the The key is provided for me automatically check box, if they are selected.
Click the Authentication tab, and then click to clear the Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network check box, if it is selected.
Click OK two times to accept the changes

You can also try installing the linksys client manager. I believe in there you can select one AP. Just make sure your SSID is not the same as his.

That's about as illegal as hacking into it and disabling the radio.
