Anyone wanting to use Microsoft Streets and Trips for making maps and logs, I have finally finished StreetStumbler, which will take the Export logs, both Summary and Text and convert them over 100% 'Ready to import' into MS. S&T. It works with both 2001 and 2002 versions of S&T, as well as 98/XP/ME/2K, and is extremly tiny in size.
If anyone wants to check it out, feel free to at : http://home.adelphia.net/~kg4ixs/StreetStumbler/ ... and read the online docs ![]() http://home.adelphia.net/~kg4ixs/Str...duct_info.html Comments/Questions/Suggestions Always Welcomed |

Hint: See if you can import a CSV file and tell it to start at row #2, using the first line for collum titles. |

Ah ... and how much more fun a GPS makes NS. Too bad they dont come as a 'Combo Deal' ![]() I just added a few finishing touches to StreetStumbler 2.0, Still beta testing it now. It should be up on the website in the next day or two. Ive gotten a few Constructive comments about how it could be improved, and since we have about 4" of snow outside, I thought Id go ahead and plug in the for the 'Request' ![]() Nothing like Snow, good music and some little 'Tabs' with red bats on top to help pass the time while plugging in a few lines of code. But then again, who needs snow and music to enjoy a good 'Silver' or two ![]() |

Excellent
Just finished using the software to import a bunch of info into S&T 2003 on Win XP Pro. Works great! I really like the ability to sort out WEP/No-WEP on the conversion. Now I can bore my friends with maps rather than just statistics! Thank you so much for your time and effort in supporting my addiction. |

Any NMEA supported gps with a serial port will work for NS, and some USB ones will too. |

Why would it? Does your Laptop mind serial GPS's? The only problem I could foresee would be using a serial gps on a XP ONLY if your GPS had dead batteries.
I know it works fine on mine ( EMAP +32megs ram, running with a Serial -> USB Converter on a P3-900/256/XP Pro. Works Wonderful ! |

I use my Garmin Emap via serial port w/o any problems on both my desktop/XP and my Sony Vaio notebook/XP. However, I and several others have experienced the small annoyance of XP seeing the GPS as a pen tablet pointing device. To avoid this, always have the GPS connected to the serial port, turned on and a GPS lock acquired before you boot the computer. The goal is to have an active GPS data stream present at the serial port when XP boots.
A sure indicator of XP having incorrectly identified your GPS as a pen tablet is that the cursor will behave erratically and your current pointing device will not respond to inputs. About all you can do is force the system to shutdown, disconnect the GPS, restart and remove the pen tablet pointing device from device manager. Shut the system back down; reconnect the GPS, acquire a GPS lock then turn the system back on again. I'm sure there are other methods around this but, I'm simply sharing my experience and what works for me. |

I have the same problem with my Serial/USB Setup, except I wait until XP sees the adapter, then turn on my GPS. It first sees it as a 'serial port' then then the GPS comes up, XP doesnt look to see what it is, it just handles the data from it.
My biggest gripe about XP is that if I unplug my USB adapter while the GPS is turned on, I get that dreaded 'blue screen of death' and because its on the laptop, it kills the keyboard AND the power switch, so I have to unplug the power then flip the battery just so the thing will reset, REALLY annoying, needless to say it only took me a couple of times to learn my lesson ![]() |
