Ok, the current version of NetStumbler is just as compatible with windows 98 as the previous version... They both only support HERMES CHIPSET WIRELESS CARDS. If you want to use other wireless cards, then you need windows 2000/XP.

Fucking retard; yes, he's very sure. Read the readme, knob head. Under win 9* the only card that works is one based on the Hermes chipset, i.e. not your piece of shit netgear card.

wrzwaldo - THANKS!

This is well documented! That card will not work with NS in any version of windows 9X!!! King is sure and I am sure.

It's not a matter of our "grossly abundant knowledge" but rather your lack of knowledge! I hope you keep on with this because we need the practice.

And WTF was hostile about post #9?

The replies you recieved were only in the tone of the one you posted regarding king_Ice_Flash. You've got no-one to blame but yourself.

You should try posting in the newbie lounge; in there your dumbass questions can be met only with smiles and information (much like here, in fact; shame you had to go and be so rude).

windows 98 and smc wifi

Hello all, New here, and new with netstumbler....

I tried to read it all and too much information.

Which version should I use on windows 98 with a SMC wifi card ?

I understood that the earlier versions that support windows 98 do not support SMC and the later versions that support SMC do not support windows 98.

Thanks in advance

No.. All versions of NS ONLY supports Hermes chipset based cards under Win9X. Under WinXP NS allows you to use cards with NDIS 5.1 compliant drivers, with the inherent limitations that gives. But that doesn't mean that the card is supported.

Supported cards are listed in the NS documentation. Those cards Marius can vouch for works, because he have access to the necessary documentation. The cards that work under NDIS 5.1 are outside his sphere of control, because they are dependant on the manufacturers ability or lack therof, to implement the NDIS 5.1 specs in their drivers. Therefore they might work, but if they don't you are SOL.

It's clearly stated in the NS Readme file, and in the online help file.
