Orinoco 8470 Promiscuous Mode in Windows

I have done a lot of searching and I haven't been able to find a decent solution to my question. Is there a way to put the orinoco 8470 into monitor, or promiscuous, mode using Windows? I have found a few firmware updates and driver patches, however they only allow the card to work in promiscuous mode in linux.

Has anyone sucessfully got a 8470 to work in promiscuous mode in windows?

Thanks,

Keefe

No. There are no openly available drivers that will do promiscuous mode in Windows. There are several programs that do this with their own proprietary software and drivers, but you'll be paying something on the order of $10,000.

I have Airmagnet and Wildpackets Airopeek NX, which seem to use promiscuous mode while the respective programs are running. I would like to be able to use the card in promiscuous mode from other applications, such as Ethereal or other packet sniffers.

What part of Thorn's post did you not understand? "There are several programs that do this with their own proprietary software and drivers". There are however "no openly available drivers that will do promiscuous mode in Windows" (at this time). Your choices at this point are 1) Write the code yourself or 2) Use Linux.

Those were some of the programs I was refering to, when I said "proprietary drivers". If you buy them, then they will run about $10k.

As far as I know, those drivers work ONLY with their respective program.

Standard on most wired NICs yes, but wireless is another story unfortunately.
