Orinoco Client manger:How do I choose with AP to connect to? It chooses on its own.
Using windows 2000, client manager connects to the AP with the best signal which is fine unless you want to connect to something else (like a friend for a wireless LAN game and his neighbor has a better signal so its auto connecting to that unencrypted AP instead.) I'm using the version out of the box, I'm at work right now but I just downloaded the latest version which I will try later. I am just not seeing where you can actually choose which one to connect like in XP's built in client where you can choose. Thanks.

Ooops I forgot to post here...
It's a simple case of RTFM. If you dont not have TFM, go get TFM and then RTFM. I'd tell you what page to start on but I am much too busy at the moment. Last edited by wrzwaldo : 01-17-2005 at 10:17 AM. |

LOL i read TF-help document...it was hard to navigate. It just seems weird to have to manually input it. But if thats all it takes than cool. Thanks Thorn. I actually figured this is what i would have to do, but all the profiles were on a default mode and they didn't seem to want to change...Thanks fellas and I post on alot of boards and i know how dumb newbies look but i DID use the search fucntion with a little google on the side for a bit before asking! |

So say they both had a "Linksys" and that was the default SSID? not that this is the case but i hate not knowing stuff just incase the problem arose...how do i tell Client manager to differentiate? |

still have the problem
Actually on mine, even inputting the SSID (or choosing it from the list) will still connect me to other networks if it can't find that network. Sometimes I'd rather it say "can't connect" than jump me to another network. Testing range, for example.
Personally I don't care much for Orinoco's client manager. It's decent, but not very flexible/controllable. |

You set your AP to something other than the factory default. |

Personally the only CM I use myself is Winc. Works with every wifi card I've used (orinoco, dlink, netgear, linksys) and makes it very easy to connect and stay connected. It also doesn't wander, which is nice as I mainly use wireless on Campus where there are upwards of a dozen AP's in range at any time (both the campus network as well as private department networks).
www.cirond.com is the site for winc. |
