My whole office were netstumbler junkies, and now we all bought Toshiba Tecra M2s, and our cards aren't supported (Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG's).
So we are not totally debilitated until Netstumber 0.4 comes out, can anyone recommend a non-netstumbler sniffer that might be compatible? All I see as I look around are netstumbler, and $1000 programs. (Obviously more praise to Marius &co. for that...) I promise I'll come back as soon as I can. |

From the Kismet README: Chipsets known to NOT WORK: Intel Centrino - The only way to use these cards in Linux wraps the windows drivers into a Linux interface. There is no rfmon support.

Humm...
OK so I was only half correct... I'll admit it, sometime even I don't RTFM But here's a quote from the Wellenreiter site: Wellenreiter is a wireless network discovery and auditing tool. Prism2, Lucent, and Cisco based cards are supported. But if Centrino isn't Prisim2 compat. then your really screwed.... Goto Ebay and get a classis gold..

Well I'm not using Linux, and I don't know if my card is Prism2 compliant. All I know is it's a big deal if centrino in general is not compatible with sniffers in general, and it's especially a big deal for me, since my last two laptops, both from the most respected companies in laptops, had built-in wi-fi cards; and neither were usable by netstumbler. I just want a sniffer. You all know how horrible wifi life is without a good sniffer...

You will either have to look at a commercial product (I am not sure which support Centrino, if any do) or, a better option, just pay for another card that is compatible. They are cheap ($75.00 new, less used). What card did your old laptop have? And why can't you use it anymore, especially if it was a PCMCIA card.

My last laptop before this one was an Atheros card, and wasn't compatible.
The one before that had a PCMCIA D-Link 650, and it was cheap, but didn't last 3 months before it broke. So no, I don't have an old external card I could use... |
