Proxim (Orinoco) 802.11b PCI PCMCIA Card and Windows XP HELP!!

I bought this card knowing it had an Orinoco chipset. What I didn't know is that it's a PITA to install under XP. Basically this card uses a PCMCIA bridge.

http://www.proxim.com/support/all/ha...m11bpci_xp.txt

This site has given me drivers for the actual PCI card, but I have no driver for the PCMCIA bridge.

This is a DESKTOP. The card is a 8100 PCI card - it looks like a PCMCIA card was grafted onto a PCI card. Like this: http://i1.ebayimg.com/01/i/03/2f/eb/cb_1_b.JPG

The bridge is showing up under "PCMCIA adapter" in Device Manager.

It's a PCI card, not a PCMCIA one, hence why I think I need a PCMCIA/PCI bridge.

I've also tried these drivers here: http://www.agere.com/mobility/wireless_lan_drivers.html
But I think those are for the Network Adapter and not the bridge...

Under Device Manager, it gives me one of those nice little yellow exclaimation marks telling me it doesn't have the right resources...

Help, anyone? I'm sure someone must've had this problem as well.

Thanks.

This is a laptop you're talking about and not a desktop with an internal PCMCIA to PCI/ISA adaptor right?

Where does this bridge show up in your device manager? What category?

Is this the first time you've used a PCMCIA card in this machine?

ok. The Bridge is actually the PCMCIA/PCI bridge. Normally in a laptop, these drivers are installed by default. It sounds like you don't have the correct driver set for that particular card and are just getting the driver set for the bound PCMCIA device. There's probably a model number on the actual PCI card that you could search google for and find the drivers for it.

Or try going to WinBloze Update with the card installed to see if M$ has an updated driver for it.

So I would have to take out the PCI card, and just find an appropriate model number? It's been killing me to find the right driver, I googled all of last night and found nothing.

Thanks, but windowsupdate has nothing for the PCMCIA bridge.

While it was out of the computer, I also posted some pictures of the card, hope that helps.

Taken with a 2MP camera, they are about 600KB-1MB each.
