Proxim (Orinoco) 802.11b PCI PCMCIA Card and Windows XP HELP!!
I bought this card knowing it had an Orinoco chipset. What I didn't know is that it's a PITA to install under XP. Basically this card uses a PCMCIA bridge.
http://www.proxim.com/support/all/ha...m11bpci_xp.txt This site has given me drivers for the actual PCI card, but I have no driver for the PCMCIA bridge. This is a DESKTOP. The card is a 8100 PCI card - it looks like a PCMCIA card was grafted onto a PCI card. Like this: http://i1.ebayimg.com/01/i/03/2f/eb/cb_1_b.JPG The bridge is showing up under "PCMCIA adapter" in Device Manager. It's a PCI card, not a PCMCIA one, hence why I think I need a PCMCIA/PCI bridge. I've also tried these drivers here: http://www.agere.com/mobility/wireless_lan_drivers.html But I think those are for the Network Adapter and not the bridge... Under Device Manager, it gives me one of those nice little yellow exclaimation marks telling me it doesn't have the right resources... Help, anyone? I'm sure someone must've had this problem as well. Thanks. Last edited by icen : 01-15-2005 at 11:14 PM. |

Where does this bridge show up in your device manager? What category? Is this the first time you've used a PCMCIA card in this machine?

This is a laptop you're talking about and not a desktop with an internal PCMCIA to PCI/ISA adaptor right?

Or try going to WinBloze Update with the card installed to see if M$ has an updated driver for it.

While it was out of the computer, I also posted some pictures of the card, hope that helps.
