Simple mappoint question

Does mappoint have all the functionality of Streets and Trips, plus more? I've found I can get mappoint 2004 for like $50 through the academic discount and I was wondering how useful it'd be outside of wardriving.

Streets and Trips is like MapPoint light. If you can get it for that price grab it!

MapPoint is very useful outside of wardriving. For $50?? Just make sure it's not a stripped down "for acedemic use only" version. I got mine free for a doing MS play test. It lists for around $399 if I recall.

Hmm....can you tell me more about that? That's the first I've heard of a stripped-down version.

Microsoft does offer 'stripped down' versions of some it's software where some functionality is not included, such COM interface, etc.

Microsoft.com for Mappoint 2004
Qualified education users can receive special discounts on boxed, retail versions of Microsoft software by purchasing Academic Edition Full Packaged Product (FPP). Academic Edition FPP is the same powerful, fully-functional software as the regular retail version. The only difference is the "Academic Edition" label and the discounted price.
So, it looks like it's a full fledged version.

Now where's my student ID from 1989 that has no expiration date on it?

Awesome.
So if I have Delorme Atlas 2005 already, is it worth ditching it for a $40 mappoint 2004?

I'd say yes. Put Delorme up on eBay or post it in the For Sale forum.

At the local college, you've got to visit the Official Bookstore to get that rate. Even then, they have a real-time lookup at the registrar's database to ensure that you're currently a full time student. However, due to the school's license agreement, you can buy one copy of XP pro for $9. Rumor has it that Office is less than $50. I've got to wait for my wife to register to check that out.

If you've got photoshop, and are dealing with an online vendor... oops, nevermind.
