Fixed it!
It was ZoneAlarm. Not only does it have to be disabled, but I had to uninstall it.

New problem.. . NetStumbler times out the GPS.
Telneting to ComFoolery has a nice smooth data stream, but connecting to the com port seems very slow and choppy.

Will test today

Since this is a different version than I was testing (this has LOTS of new features) I will test it today. But I know what the problem is, In devicecomm change the timeouts from 1 to 1000. Works fine then.
(I almost forgot about that one...Only netstumbler seems to need the change......)

AGPS in MapPoint 2002

Has anyone tried to use the AGPS plug-in with MapPoint 2002 and Comfoolery? I tried it and no matter what I do, I get a Comm Error when I try to use the plug in.

All I want to do is run NetStumbler and some other program to track where I have been and leave a trail. I know that MapPoint will track where you are, but I don't know how to make it leave a trail.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

If this helps StreetFinder Deluxe leaves a trail with directional arrows... In fact that is the only reason I would use it... It also does playback... so you can playback your trail.... I heard that the next rev of StumbVerter is going to have breadcrumbs (though probably not with directional arrows)...

If you check Microsoft Support Site, MP2002 is very picky on how it communicates, and I have yet to find something that virtualizes the port successfully with this app.

Street Atlas 9 and earlier versions

I use it with no problems using DeLorme Streetatlas current version 9 or older version. (NOTE: NOT DELUXE, I have NOT tested that).
Have you changed the port timeouts in devicecomm yet?

I have done NO testing yet on the transmit side of the port...YET! (the second port you can connect to as a bi-directional port, the first one is a one-way listen only port).

With Streetatlas, I can see where I have been, plot the track later, replay the track later, build an overlay map of all of the access point and then know where my closest one is.

Not to mention using APRS, know where all my fellow HAM friends are in real time.

The other mapping program I use is DeLorme Topo USA....Now I can run topouse and streetatlas at the same time.

Talking Awsome...

I am now wishing I had the time at work to dump this on my XP Laptop and test it... too much work to do!!

Questions...

Has anyone noticed if this causes much extra lag? Multiple passess would even this out, but as long as its only a secodn or two it shoudl be reasonable...

When and why was this written? Was it just for this situation? The webpage has no info on who to thank or how to donate cash if we like the program...

AGPS question

I don't know how AGPS communicates with your gps.....

1. When running comfoolery, do you see the data coming in from the serial port?

2. When you connect your app via the virtual serial port (devicecomm) do you see the connection window?

3. Remember, comfoolery is NOT the only part to the puzzle.
Comfoolery simply talks to the HARDWARE serial port on your computer and turns it into a TCP/IP port. The devicecomm driver makes a virtual serial port that communicates with comfoolery.

Its in the readme file

The readme file and the about box have my contact info in it, as for shameless plug for contributions.
The idea and inspiration for this app came from a discussion with Mark (KC5EVE). He told me about this forum and the "bounty" for an app such as Comfoolery, and i was only too happy to submit it for everyone here.

Why written

The program was written at the request of me, by Brian Poe, In the help about section it has his paypal and snail mail address for donations.

I wanted it for this and some other projects. (referenced in an earlier email.)

One GPS, so many uses!
