Stumbverter Question

Hello All,

Mother, you should be able to help with this. Here's some background: While I like the stumbling icons that Stumbverter automatically inserts, I have so many concentrated APs in the LA area that I would prefer to use a small green dot for open APs and a small red dot for wep enabled APs, using the small green and small red circle pushpins that come with MapPoint 02. I tried searching for where these pushpins were stored, ie in Windows/Shared, and Program Files/MapPoint, but was unable to find them. Utilizing the search tool, I found a handy link on the MSDN website courtesy of Blackwave that displayed all of these icons. I saved the pictures of the icons I liked, putting them on my Desktop.

Now, I tried to replace these images with those in the Stumbverter MP icons folder, renaming them O1, O2, O3 etc, and W1, W2, and W3. Sounds good, right? When I open Stumbverter to map my locations, I get a program error stating: Program routine:General_IniProg, Error Code: -2.147191E+09, Import Failed. Any ideas, all that I really want to do is change the default icons, the antenna towers, with small green circles and small red circles.

Any help and/or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ryan

BTW: Mother, you did a fantastic job with the new beta!!!

nice, did you try and make sure the heigth, width, resolution, depth are identical for the icons and bitmaps you are replacing them with ?

BW,

No, I did not, I'll try that; however, I'm guessing that this might be a script error that just isn't reading these files (Perhaps b/c they are not the same h,d,r etc.) I'll play around with it if I get a chance tomorow.

Thanks,
Ryan

I thought you explained that you FIRST changed the ICONS and THEN the error messages started... if not, then this sounds like a different issue.... try getting a small file and having it mapped with the new graphic files.

Small dots

Would this be OK? If so, the procedure is very easy - open the icons in your favourite icon editor, and change them. The icon format StumbVerter uses is 32x32 at 16 colors. Anything different than that could give errors or unexpected results.

Cheers,

Mother

(P.S. I may make available this icon set on my website later on)

Nevermind - it appears the icons are kept in a seperate directory - no need to hack the .exe

If you get your favorite iconprogram (I like MicroAngelo 5.5) you can edit the icons to your choosing - the only thing is that you will want to make sure the backgrounds are transparent so you dont have a giant block sitting on there - the icons will also need to be the same dimensions and sizes, i.e, 16x16, 32x32 and so on.

Hey All,

Thanks for all of your help. Looks like I got it working, now I may want to change the colors and attributes around. After initially having problems with transperancy, I downloaded the beta of MicroAngelo, turns out the icon files I placed in the folder were gifs, alas! Made my icons after importing them from created bitmaps, MicroAngleo will only import and retain transperancy for images imported and this and a few other formats, gif and jpeg not included. I replaced the files in the icons folder, fired it up, and away I went . Here is what my map of Los Angeles looks like now...

Hey All,

Attached are the green and red icons that I used. All you need to do is place these in the Program Files\Stumbverter\Icons Folder; remove the old icons (put them in My Pix in case something goes wrong) and paste these into you icons folder. Enjoy

Question Er....

Quick! Make a screenshot of it! It's one of the rare sightings of the red-circles-with-numbers-in-them phenomena....

Seriously, I have no idea why this is happening to you. Please send a full report (OS, MapPoint version, StumbVerter version, log files that cause the problem, screenshots, whatever) to bugs AT sonar-security DOT com, and I'll look into it.

Cheers,

Mither

And I think I know why it's doing it.

Because I'm using MP 2004, it's probably trying to use an icon that's a different set in MP 2002. The numbers go like this:

22 23 24 (No WEP; Red, yellow, green)
26 27 28 (WEP; Red, yellow, green)
