WEP keys

Is there any way to get my WEP key from the ******'s in my card's utility? Or will I have to crack the WEP with AirSnort or something? (I don't have much linux experience and i'd like to try to aviod this)

I'm looking for the easiest way to decrypt the thing, it's already saved in my card's utility.

Wipe it and make a new key on your router.

That would be easiest, but we have 23 AP's and almost 40 Laptops, my predecessor neglected to tell me the WEP before he left, and I want to add one more laptop without reconfiguring everything.

You can't log into the base station and get it. I know when I log into mine it shows the keys. You probably won't be able to crack them, pretty hard to do.

Would it be very hard to crack it with AirSnort? Do you need a lot of linux knowledge to get it to work?

Lets just say that it'd be easier to hack a laptop that already had the WEP key stored inside it somewhere.

I don't know

There was some rumours of it a while back. You need to provide us with more details. OS, card, drivers etc...

I didn't download it, but... Is that the one that simply tells you what is hidden behind the stars? I was trying to think of that but couldn't. I used it years back for something or other.

That tool works great on everything but WEP codes... It won't decrypt my code on my dell @ home. The code seems to fall under the program's unrevealable code section... I used a similar program yesterday at work and it didn't work.

Any suggestions on where to go from here? I was beinging to think it would be easier to just reconfigure everything, but then I realized he didn't tell me the password to the AP's either, so now i'm stuck.

Two things:
Some WEP keys are stored in the registry. It depends on brand, model, etc. You may be able to search through and find it there.

If you do have to reset the AP's the fact that you don't have the passwords isn't that critical. Every AP i've ever seen can be reset to factory defaults in some way. Check the manufacturer's site for the details.

yep, I can reset then, but that would also mean completely reconfiguring them, which I don't feel like doing to 26 AP's.

I'll see what I can find in the registry, I also loaded redhat on an old laptop and got airsnort running, but i'm not getting anywhere with it on my WEP at home.

These are Orinoco WaveLAN 2500 AP's, btw
