WirelessWall Data Link Encryption
Just wanted to see if anyone had seen "WirelessWall" by Cranite (http://www.cranite.com/).
They are talking about using it for our network, and Cranite says it encrypts at the Data Link layer... but they dont use any proprietary hardware. They obviously cant be encrypting EVERYTHING at the data link layer. If anyone has information on if this is any good or not please let me know. Is it any better than say encryption at layer 3, a VPN type solution? Thanks... kind of nice to post on netstumbler again ![]() edit: fixed the link

Welcome back.
Without looking further into cranite's product than the product page on the website, I would think you could achieve similar security by using 802.11x authentication and access control, with WPA2 encryption on the AP's, and a VPN. But it'll probably be harder to manage on a large installation, so the WW product might be a better choice. I've downloaded their info pdf's for WW, and will revert back when I've researched some more. Dutch

Its Ok, keeps out alot of bs, but its a pain to a tech when you are trying to fix issues.

Dutch: rights that what i was thinking, it just seems kind of pointless for all that money. Dont want to make a conclusion yet, need to do more research.
Starpoint: That new ip should only be there when you make the tunnel to the WirelessWall Access Controller. Right? (like a VPN) I would like to attach a PowerPoint "Cranite Systems Overview" but the file size is to big. Anyone think i could email them the file and they could host it? Due to my current location im not able to host anything right now. Just PM me and i can email it to you.

That looks very similar to what Aruba and Trapeze are doing in the latest generation.
FYI: Nortel and Enterasys are doing OEM from Trapeze. Each does a little firmware tweaking to claim it as their own. MikeP
