iBook airport substitute

Hi folks,
does anyone know if you can substitute another card for the airport card in an iBook? I've done it on my G4 desktop with an orinoco silver (that's what they put in airport bases). unfortunately, the size is important in the ibook. I'm planning on doing some experimentation, so if I find out I'll let you know.

Or so they claim here

It's a G3 iBook. Hardware failure eh? Very interesting. I'll let you know if there is a toasted iBook for sale in the near future. Thanks for the info.

I can see why you're trying this. Those cards are still selling for $75 - 100!

No Kidding. I love my mac but I like my bank account too. Actually I just bought a Belkin FD6050 usb wifi adapter. After a but of futzing it seems to be working fine. It's abit on the large and ungainly side, but I just heard from a friend that Linksys makes a keycahin drive sized usb adapter that works with macs. I'm going to look into it. BTW the Belkin cost $40 at Zone. I'll let you know what I find out about anything else.

The only way is to do a lot of modding and soldering on the card, its gonna be way too much work to do that, just go with the apple card.

After much playing with the belkin adapter I've decided to go with an actual airport card. It works well, it works the first time. Ok, a little expensive but to have a good working wireless network, I'm willing to swallow my pride. I'm not willing to take my iBook apart for anything but a really good reason ( aG5 mod perhaps). Thanks folks for the help and fellowship.
