Orinoco gold wifi card, tiger, and no response
Ok I may just be a moron, because I am new with macs. I purchaced an orinoco gold card to hook up my antenna for wardriving. But I have no clue what driver to use. I insert the card and nothing happens. Nothing lights up and there is no prompt on the screen. Am I just not using this properly or is there a place I can download the driver. Also is the disk it came with useless because there is no Mac Os driver on it (or is there)?
Thanks |

you need drivers
You'll need to install some drivers for your Orinoco card.
Sourceforge Wireless Driver's are free and work on tiger, then there is also a couple pay drivers that will work also... http://wirelessdriver.sourceforge.net/ Make sure you download Beta 6 for Tiger: http://sourceforge.net/projects/wirelessdriver/ Last edited by hard-mac : 09-12-2005 at 08:03 PM. |

Orioco Gold (Proxim) or Orinoco Gold Classic
If you have one of the Orinico Gold cards from Proxim and it doesn't say Classic anywhere on the card, you are out of luck. This card is only supported on Windows as far as I know. It won't even work under Linux.
If it is an Orinoco Gold Classic, you can use use the commercial drivers from IOexperts (http://www.ioexperts.com/). They work very well. The Gold Classic also works well with KisMac (http://kismac.binaervarianz.de/) an excellent war driving tool. |

It won't do anything till you start up kismac. The drivers are part of that program. You only have to install drivers if you want to actually use it for connecting to your home or work network. In the settings for kismac there is a drivers tab. That is where you select the drivers to use. I have my Oronoco set as my main card and my airport card as the injection card.
