I have installed and used IOExperts driver to use with my Orinoco Gold card. On their site they have a list of MOST wireless cards. I am running 10.3.4. I have built-in wireless but I wanted to attach an external antenna w/o rigging my ti-book.

Only issue i find is that when i run KisMAC, i am no longer able to connect to my chosen network or other nearby networks via their control panel in system preferences.

only major bummer is that the driver works for 30 min intervals. then you must pay 20 bucks.

Kismac supports the Orinoco card right out of the box. Don't know what other cards will work with OSX, I modded my laptop.

You might have luck with this:
http://www.epinions.com/pr-Lexar_Med...~latest_prices

It is a USB media reader that accepts PCMCIA cards ... but I'm not sure how well it would work.

I've got an iBook G4 as well, and I assume that you don't want to use an Airport Extreme card because it can't be put into passive mode for KisMAC (yet). You may be able to use a Dell TrueMobile 1150 Mini-PCI card in the Airport Extreme slot - from the looks of it, it may fit, but I haven't tested it yet. That should also work with the internal antenna in the iBook G4 assuming it fits in the slot and is recognized by the Sourceforge driver. That way you could get passive mode working in KisMAC with the Macjack driver (I think it's the Macjack) and use the Sourceforge driver for regular wireless use.

Here is a nice website listing all the compatable wireless cards with OS X so far.

http://home.earthlink.net/~metaphyzx/Wireless.htm

Some even work with the Aiport drivers because they use the Broadcom chipset.

Lightbulb TiPB with an SMC2532W-B

I'm surfing on a my TiPB using a newly purchased SMC2532W-B (200mw card) driven by a Sourceforge's Wirelessdriver. For some reason, I was unable to successfully modify the installation package to recognize the card but I was able to modify the appropriate file once the driver was installed.

My Steps:
1. Install wirelessdriver
2. Log in as Root
3. Open /System/Library/Extensions/WirelessDriver.kext/Contents/Info.plist, I used the Property List Editor, you can probably use any text editor.
4. Under Root>IOKitPersonalities>everything else>IONameMatch> add a child. The contents of the child will be "pccardd601,5".
5. Save, reboot, & you should be golden!

Love your screen name. Are the rest of the Lost Planet Airmen hanging around? Driven any fast cars lately?

D-Link's DWL-122 works with KisMAC

Hey people.

I got my iBook working with D-Link's DWL-122. It's a USB WiFi device, comes with an extension USB cable (nice for placing it under back car window).

Main thing is it works with KisMAC. I never realized just how many open APs I have around my town.

I only recently became a proud owner of iBook G3. It does not have a PCMCIA port, which means I's have to hunt down an old AirPort card to go inside. Since Apple doesn't make them anymore, they run in the neighborhood of $130. So, The D-Link's USB adapter for $40 is a MUCH better alternative.

Good luck to all Mac stumblers.
