Project: Airport Extreme with rfmon

I became interested in trying to figure out a driver for the Airport Extreme card that would work with kismet for monitoring.

Began looking around on my system and am hoping to start a discussion of how to figure out an do this.

It looks like the AppleAirPort2.kext is the apple driver for this card. Inside this package is the driver library itself, in Contents/MacOS/AppleAirport2.

Running nm on this file is interesting. A whole bunch of names like '_wlc_recalc_11b_txpower'. These seem to correspond to a standard library.

There is a sourceforge project to develop an open source linux wrapper for the linux kernel for this library.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ndiswrapper/

which has just released version 1.1.

I am wondering if some of the other members or developers of other drivers for the mac could use this to make a quick mod or wrapper that would allow monitoring?

promiscuous mode?

It looks like there is even a call with a name containing 'setPromiscuousMode'

Would calling that do the trick?

Hi.
I need to use kismac with airport extreme in no limited mode.
I'm running Mac OS X v10.4.2 on a Powerbook 1.5 Ghz Aluminum G4 (which has an Airport Extreme card built-in).
I've read your post and I'm interested to.
Have you try anything with ndiswrapper?
I'm an IT engineer, I'd like to contribute.
