Exclamation Usb adaptor & mac os x

Hey folks

I have a new ibook 1.44ghz laptop and want to start scanning (passive) with kismac but with the build-in card i can only scan active.

I've read alot about these wifi usb sticks, but alot of them are 802.11b and I need G since I'm from europe.

http://kismac.binaervarianz.de/hardwarelist.php ive checked this list of kismac compatible hardware. But they sell none of those listed usb sticks in my country.

they sell a d-link airplus g dwl-g122 in my local store but I've read that there are alot of problems with getting these cards working.
link:http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=334

They also sell belkin Wireless G USB Network Adapter
link:http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProdu...duct_Id=179211

These 2 are rather expensive..
So what should I do know ? I want an usb wifi stick that works with kismac

I'm not a Mac expert by a long shot, but 802.11b and 802.11g have nothing to do with you being in Europe. Also, most 'b' cards will detect 'g' networks. You may want to double check what you want to to do.

Are you suggesting that a G card will detect networks faster than a B card?

No But I mean 802.11g have a maximum speed of 54Mbps, while 802.11b has a maximum speed of 11Mbps.

Nothing
But because I'm also planning to use it to make a sattelite dish so I can make a wifi connection with a friend of mine who lives about 200-300 meters away from me and I want a fast speed connection.

This is the list of what will work with kismac. I personally use an Orinoco Gold card for passive scanning. It also has the ability to add an external antenna for whatever else you want to use it for.

I know what you're going to say "but I'm not in the UK". Well, tough titty, you said Europe and I showed you a working one in Europe; maybe you could search for yourself some day?

Then you'll bitch about it only being 11b and you want 11g to join with your mate. Well, maybe you should get a different card for that, instead of demanding that we provide you with an all-in-one wonder card.

Next you'll be asking us to cook you dinner, or take the lid off your pudding. You can do all this yourself.

Unless you're compileing the program yourself that is the list for what's downloadable on site. Otherwise afaik there isn't a current "list" of what works and what doesn't. If you want a faster connection, just buy it like the rest of us.

I have my D-Link DWL-G122 working with my 12-inch Powerbook. The only issue I have is that when I want to stop passive scanning and use my MAC to connect to a network I have to reboot with out the DWL inserted.

It took a bit of Google digging and reading various threads and such but the biggest issue was a reference to where to get KisMAC 0.2a (0.2a [$Revision: 62:75M$]) but once I had that software and the correct drivers. It has been fun.

Next step - add GPS and mapping software.
