2Wire Card & Kismet
Hi All,
I wonder if anyone can advise me. I have a rebadged "2Wire" Orinoco gold classic 11b card. I'm running slackware linux 10.2 with the latest 2.6.15.4 kernel. The firmware of my 2wire card is version 8.42. The problem is that after a few minutes or maybe more, kismet exits and dmesg shows the following: > hermes @ IO 0x100: Timeout waiting for command completion. > hermes @ IO 0x100: Timeout waiting for command completion. > hermes @ IO 0x100: Error -16 issuing command. > hermes @ IO 0x100: Error -16 issuing command. > hermes @ IO 0x100: Error -16 issuing command. > hermes @ IO 0x100: Error -16 issuing command. > hermes @ IO 0x100: Error -16 issuing command. After alot of googling and what not, I did find out that the 8.xx firmware is apparently unstable with kismet, and I've been advised to downgrade my firmware. Also, after alot of googling i've found that version 6.16 is perhaps the best version? I managed to download the 6.16 update program, however it comes up with the error "no wireless card driver found". I am using the "Orinoco PC Card 5 Volt" driver. I have tried the Agere driver as well, but still i get the same error. Out of curiosity I also tried other versions, - 8.72 & 7.28, yet I still get the same error. I did also try the 6.0.6 version which came up looking like it would work, then after pressing "update" it would say "your current wireless card is not updatable with this utility" Is there anyone who has similair experiences with this card and/or can advise me on how to reflash this card sucessfully to version 6.16 or one that works? Any help is much appreciated, Cheers. |

I think you must be either looking for the Kismet support site, or Dutch. But by now he's probably too drunk. So why don't you try Kismet support?
Either way, the mods have a nice room prepared for you in the Newbie Bin. MikeP

Personally I've used 8.72 without issue for 8+ hour drives

Take a look at Alchemy. You will need a WinXP machine with a PCMCIA slot. If I recall correctly it will do some downgrades depending on the FW.
Lucent silver to gold Dragorn is the final word on kismet.

I was referring to Dutch being in his usual wonderful chemically-enhanced mood. After all, how else can a mod be expected to put up with the level of tards we have had lately. I have not determined your problem. You get the answer from THE source, it is not what you wanted to hear, so you keep asking. MikeP
