Question airjack

anyone played around with airjack?
i checked out the tools today and was quite impressed...
the idea sending deauth and deass packets is very simple, but it works..."nice" DoS...also the man in the middle funktion (i personally prefer the term "man in the air" works and is effective....didn't check out the function to intercept encrypted traffic, because i have not implemeted wavesec yet, but i guess it will work too...

defense

i think these tools are nice for defense.
if a company regulary scans for unauthorized wireless networks, and finds some, they can use these tools to see what the malicious user or intruder is doing using the man-in-the-air tool, or to directly disrupt the connection using the "DoS" tool

to bad you have to be a *nix guru to use any of these toys looks like it could be really nifty tool for inhouse auditing of security

It's source, there are some includes missing from the tools that are not in cygwin, but it looks like they can be compiled. I'm a little more concerned about compiling the drivers

<soapbox>
Anyway, unix gurus have to start somewhere. There's nothing like a cool project to give you incentive to try something new, like installing linux and trying to compile source. The entry barrier is low in terms of cost of hardeware, the main cost is your time. Even if you don't succeed, you will be ahead by learning a new skill that's readily marketable (both sun and ibm have products and open positions of linux people). So give it a try, and invest in yourself instead of giving money to the m$.

Question cygwin

@sparafina: you compiled it in cygwin?
nice idea, my knowledge about cygwin is not actual...what about interface access?
btw: nice soapbox

@mellow: do you have a working linux install with compiler tools and kernel 2.4.x?
if so, i can try to point you in the right direction by writing a little how-to style doc about how i get this nifty little thing running...

cheers

Well I tried the tools for grins and gcc complained about headers not usually found in cygwin for net, netpacket, and openssl. So it didn't build. I think I can find those.

The card drivers refer to some linux specific headers. So there will probably be issues.

As for interface, its just the way I like it, command line.

I think I'll setup a linux vmware machine just so I can compile stuff, I'm getting too old and lazy to hit the kvm any more.

Thanks about the soapbox, all the interesting stuff is being written in linux, so why miss out?

just to make sure that i understood you correctly:
you will compile th stuff under vmware..ok no problem, but afaik you won't have a chance to run it in there right? or did i miss something...i'm a little bit confused now

that's correct. Compile on vmware and then use it on a Linux laptop. I'm not that familiar with vmware's networking, so I don't know if its possible, though posts here indicate that doesn't work, kinda makes sense.

I'm just so impressed with vmware, because it solved a major problem that I want to try it out on everything.

if you write a little How-To that would be great, time is definatlywhat it takes to learn *nix in general. some times i have all in the world, and other times i dont have any at all. so some times i go realy heavy into trying to learn *nix and other times i just want to be told how to FREAKING DO IT or ill kill someone!

but ya, its worth learning, i barely know anything, and i have spent a lot of time anyway, im not quiting... Let me know if you make that How-To... is their anything you have to do for kimset like AirJack to get it to work?

to do..

i can remember my first contacts with *nix style os's...was a hard life...and still nowadays i'm definately not something like a guru...just a noob that get's around

no, there is nothing special on it, you just have to compile th drivers and the tools.
after that you have to bind the airjack_cs.o to your prism card (i've tested it on my acer warplink)
after that you have to patch the orinoco.c from your pcmcia source tree and compile it.
the last thing is to compile the tools and then you're ready to go...
i'll post a step-by-step on how i got it to work as soon as i've finished...(about 10 min)
i hope it will be readable and can be understood, since my english is not as good as well...

cheers
