Airodump Error

Hi all, my netgear WG511T pcmcia card is working fine with kismet but im getting an error when trying to run airodump:

Code:
ioctl (SIOCSIWMODE) failed: Invalid arguement
ARP linktype is set to1 (Ethernet) - expected ARPHRD_IEEE80211 or ARPHRD_IEEE80211_PRISM instead. Make sure RFMON is enabled: run ifconfig ath0 up; iwconfig ath0 Mode Monitor.
When i try the command it suggests i get:
Code:
Error for wireless request "set mode" (8B06): set failed on device ath0; invalid arguement.
How can i get airodump running?

Im on slackware 10.2, using the madwifi drivers.

Any help greatly appreciated.

I second the motion that requires a 7 day waiting period before noobs can post.

If you are using the madwifi-ng driver, you will have to use a different way of putting the card into monitor mode. I suggest you google madwifi-ng monitor mode.

Gentlemen, you are posting on the wrong forum. Get a clue and go over there.

I think all the regulars here will carry that motion over. Can the mods please approve the motion and put it into effect please?

I don't agree with the lurk period. I think it would be bad for the forum.

You just want more easy targets to shoot at.
