Blank ascii key in hex for iwconfig
Surely this fool question has been answered more than one time, but I'm not used to this language a did not find the topic. Excuse me.
It's just that I work in a WEP key protected network with a GüindousXP. I don't know how they maintain security because although there is no important data there is no net password too. I connect with GüindousXP by simply clicking accept button --> pathetic. The problem comes when I want to connect my Sarge Debian. I have this in my /etc/network/interfaces auto ra0 iface ra0 inet dhcp name MYNAME wireless_essid NETESSID wireless_key "s:" wireless_mode Managed wireless_rate auto wireless_rts auto wireless_channel 6 I know it is wrong as I can't connect this way. I receive Error for wireless request "Set Encode" (8B2A) : invalid argument "s:". I tried to fill 5 to 13 positions in ascii spaces or HEX %20 iwconfig Wireless-Tools version 27 Compatible with Wireless Extension v11 to v17. Kernel Currently compiled with Wireless Extension v16. ra0 Recommend Wireless Extension v14 or later, Currently compiled with Wireless Extension v16. 2.6.8-2-386 i686 GNU/Linux ¿Could anybody help me? Thank you very much anyway for simply being there showing us the truth ![]()

# The loopback network interface auto lo iface lo inet loopback #wireless auto ra0 iface ra0 inet dhcp name name wireless_ap XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX wireless_essid p123412341234 #wireless_key off wireless_mode Managed wireless_rate auto wireless_rts auto And did sudo ifconfig ra0 down sudo ifup ra0 Also the same with that key line uncommented for getting key off Also tried the same with wireless_key open All gave me the same result: No dhcp offers Even when I disable key It doesn't take ap MAC automatically but It does when key is active with any value. Excuse me if I can't explain clearly. Thank you again.

The only thing I can think off is to try:
wireless_key=off wireless_essid=p123412341234 It should work without =
