Fake-AP and SIOCSIFHWADDR: Invalid Argument

I am using mandrake 9.1 and was going to mess around with some of my friends when they go out driving and so i found this Fake-AP software by reading some posts on this board so i decided to mess around with it.

but when i try to run it without any arguments other than --interface wifi0 i get the error

when i run it using interface eth0 i seems to run but nothing gets broadcasted and i cannot detect anything with kismet or netstumbler on other machines.

i have searched google for this error message and all i seem to come up with is stuff about linking AX25 into the kernel on boot and its for hams and such but this is not what i am doin is it?

has anyone else came accrossed this error? oh and i do have hostap installed and i even tried reinstalling and everything that depended on it and i had no luck.

any input would be greatly appriciated. Thanks.

I get this exact error when I try to setup a new MAC with my wifi nic.

ifconfig ath0 down
ifconfig ath0 hw ether 00:11:22:33:44:55
SIOCSIFHWADDR: INVALID ARGUMENT

Anyone?

If you really would rather I could just make a whole new thread with the exact same info on it, but I think it's a bit more courteous to add my info to a pre-existing thread of the same nature.

You guys are a riot, this is the most useless forum I've ever been to. Seniority doesn't always dictate knowledge or proper judgement. So what if I posted on an old thread, I never asked you to answer to it. I've found little to no useful knowledge on this forum, want to know why? Because it almost seems like you guys just put this place up so when anyone from anywhere asks a question you can rip them down. Does it make you feel like a big man? I hope so since you are clearly lacking something in real life that makes you such a control freak on this site.

You're missing the point. We don't like to see old threads re-opened. You were asked to look in the Welcome Desk, and read that specifically and the other information there, but you'd rather be a child and fight authority.

You came in here, and you want information, but you refuse to go by the rules. There's a simple solution: Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out.
