4048MB / 2048MB /var 2048MB /home split the remainder between /usr and ntfs ... although if you plan on filling your windows drive with video, drop the size of your /usr

how about a simpler way
1 gig swap 6 gig ext2 or 3, install everything here my rule of thumb for linux is that if i cant fit what i want into 6 gigs i want too much

heheh I guess it depends how much you do in nix.. video files are what add up the fastest
as for the multiple partitions.. just gives more flexibility to control stuff.. improves performance slightly for some things too
