Interesting find

I can't find anywhere else for this to go. I am using kismet so here is as good as any.

i have a box with an orinoco and a 15db sector antenna pointed out my deck door. It faces the street and a bunch of other apartments.

A BGE truck was out front messing with the streetlight. When he pulled up I picked up probes for frmwlan SSID. I didn't think much of it, but it stopped sending probes when he left.

I am thinking that truck had wireless in it. Anyone else had any similar experiences? I am thinking of setting up an AP that accepts any SSID and doing traffic analysis on what I find.

What about a DHCP server that automatically port scans any machine that grabs an IP? Anyone seen anything like that?

Sounds like the SST-PR1 mystery. Probably a wireless fleet management system. As for the port scans- you're in the the wrong place for that. Try IRC, d00d.

Baltimore Gas & Electric (BGE) Selects WebTech Wireless
GPS/GPRS Telematics System; GPS Fleet Tracking & Remote
Equipment Monitoring Services Provided

ORLANDO, FLORIDA-(CITA WIRELESS) WebTech Wireless Inc., a leading
Telematics Services Provider serving fleets, today announced that
Baltimore Gas & Electric (BGE), one of North America's oldest
utility companies has selected the WebTech Wireless Locator T3000
and Quadrant fleet services portal to manage its materials
distribution fleet with tracking and equipment monitoring
services.

Baltimore Gas and Electric's Materials Distribution Division has
installed WebTech Locator T3000's on its tractor-trailer rigs and
flatbed trucks that deliver materials to company construction
crews throughout its Central Maryland service territory. The
WebTech Locator T3000 and Quadrant fleet services portal enables
BGE's Material Distribution dispatch to pinpoint on a map where a
delivery truck is at any moment. The Quadrant fleet services
portal also provides an online Telematics command center to
monitor the operation of on-board vehicle cranes and report on
worker panic button alarms.

"Since installing the WebTech fleet tracking and equipment
monitoring services and RIMMS software from Descartes, the
Distribution division has realized a 14% cost savings," commented
Joseph Suehle, director of Materials Distribution for BGE. "We
decided to install the RIMMS software and WebTech's wireless fleet
services as together they provide a comprehensive fleet management
system that will help us keep our workers safe and keep us
competitive and efficient. The combined systems help us to do a
better job spotting inefficiencies."

"We are delighted to be serving BGE's wireless fleet management
requirements with our GPS/GPRS Telematics device and fleet
services portal." commented Cameron Fraser, Chief Technology
Officer, WebTech Wireless. "The wireless vehicle applications now
made possible by our end-to-end telematics system and new
always-on high speed GSM/GPRS networks is the missing link for
logistics and dispatch management. We anticipate this to be the
first of many Utility organizations requesting this real-time
wireless fleet monitoring capability."

Exactly! From a Qualcomm press release:
Quote:
FleetAdvisor's support for 802.11b technology allows companies with private fleets to leverage existing network technology and transfer large data files wirelessly when fleet vehicles are on location. Traditional data communications methods can be relatively expensive for some private fleets transmitting large manifest data files. 802.11b, commonly referred to as Wi-Fi, is a wireless LAN technology that allows data transfer speeds of up to 11 Megabits per second (Mbps). FleetAdvisor 5.1 includes support for this technology so that companies using QUALCOMM's MVPc™ in-vehicle computer equipped with a wireless LAN card can quickly and inexpensively transfer large amounts of data.

I KNOW WHAT SST-PR1 IS!!!!!!!!

SST = Sears Service Tech...

its the sears vans... these were driving me crazy until one day i was getting a 50 signal off of an SST-PR1 and i was parked next to a sears van at a red light, i followed him for a few miles and i never got below a 35... whenever i would get closer, the signal would go up.. farther the signal would go down, he turned, signal went away
