ipw2200 in Monitor mode ?
Hello,
Recently I have downloaded and installed ipw2200-1.0.2.tgz and ipw2200-fw-2.2.tgz on my intel thinkpad R50e laptop. In the Makefile I have uncommented the entry "CONFIG_IPW_MONITOR=y". The card seems to be in Monitor mode after issueing the command "iwconfig eth1 mode monitor" : # iwconfig eth1 unassociated ESSID ff/anyMode:Monitor Channel=0 Access Point: 00:00:00:00:00:00 Bit Rate=0 kb/s Tx-Power=20 dBm RTS thr ff Fragment thr ffEncryption key ffPower Management ffLink Quality:0 Signal level:0 Noise level:0 Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0 Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0 But sniffing packets does not work and dmesg gives me out following error message: ipw2200: ipw-2.2-sniffer_ucode.fw load failed: Reason -2 ipw2200: Unable to load firmware: 0xFFFFFFFE ipw2200: Failed to up device ipw2200: No space for Tx ipw2200: failed to send SCAN_REQUEST_EXT command It seems that the firmware code "ipw-2.2-sniffer_ucode.fw" is missing. I could not find it anywhere on the internet. Does anybody know where it can be obtained ? The strange thing is that monitoring mode does work under windows XP with the netstumbler programm. What kind of driver does netstumbler use ? Is it an intel driver or a windows native one ? Thanks, quirxi |

Monitor mode is used by passive scanners. As for getting your IPW2200 working under Linux, try to check the IPW driver support site, or a linux oriented hardware site. It is outside the scope of netstumbler.org's agenda. Contrary to popular belief, netstumbler.org isn't a general support site for whatever hardware you need to get working. Dutch
