Kismet GPS Problems

I have compiled and configured the newest stable Kismet (2005-08-R1) build on a computer with Auditor Security Collection installed to the hard drive. It's been working pretty well, but with one minor exception: After about 10-15 minutes, my GPSs (Microsoft iGPS-360 and Delorme Earthmate LT-20) seem to stop updating their positions. Has anyone encountered a similar problem?

A few more details: I couldn't get the GPS function to work with either the LT-20 or iGPS-360 alone, after executing modprobe pl2303 and starting GPSD on /dev/ttyUSB0. But when both are plugged in simultaneously, it works (for a while.) I have to restart the computer and do it over again once it stops updating the positions. Restarting GPSD doesn't seem to work. I am using an older HP-Pavillion N5190, and a Proxim 8470-WD card (which really should not matter.)

Thanks

What version of gpsd? Dutch tells me that v1.1 tends to be more stable than some of the newer (2.3? something like that) versions.

If you telnet into the gpsd port, can you get raw NMEA output? Does it look OK? i.e. Do the NMEA sentences look correct for the the Lat/Long, etc.?

The new version 2.30 doesn't play well with Kismet. The version that ships with GPSDrive is more stable. I found with version 2.30 it would sometimes work and sometimes not. One time it wouldn't say I was going faster then 20mph even though I was doing 3 times that speed.

Thanks for the replies guys. I will install the older GPSd tomorrow and see how it works, as well as testing the connection with telnet.

Well, it has started working with no apparent reason. Worked for about 3 hours yesterday.
