Kismet on Zaurus sl-5500 (collie)

Does anyone know the correct source line for kismet.conf, when using a Zaurus sl-5500 (collie) OZ 3.5, GPE source/image, with a Symbol Spectrum24 High Rate CF card?
or a Senao NL-2511CF Mecury (Prism3, I think??)

I don't know which category either cards fall into on the Kismet readme info on setting the source
I would be glad to get either of these to run Kismet.

I've tried the obvious - Cisco,eth0/wlan0*,ciscosource

*Symbol = eth0 & Senao = wlan0

Ive also tried out -
Symbol,eth0,...............
Spectrum24,eth0,.........
Spectrum_cs,eth0,........
Senao,wlan0,..........
Prism,wlan0,........
Prism2,wlan0,.........

All I ever get is:

FATAL: Unable to open cisco control file '/proc/driver/aironet/eth0/Config' 2:No such file or directory

or.....

FATAL: Unknown capture source type *****,eth0/wlan0,ciscosource

etc etc

I have also noticed that the Senao, which is assigned Wlan0, also makes up another sort of "virtual" device as Wifi0. Does anyone know the significance of this?

Any help will be really appreciated

Got it !!

It was "hostap"

but now Kismet fires up, all the txt messages fly up the screen too fast to read, then ends with "Kismet exiting"

All the startup procedures appear to happen & it even leaves behind the .dump .csv .gps .cisco files, etc.

edit: I have been able to spot an error in the messages which scroll by during Kismets startup sequence:

Error opening terminal: rxvt

Any ideas, please !?

I do not have experience of OZ and am a Linux noob, but this is the recipe that worked for me on a 5500 with Sharp 3.10 ROM:
http://www.timekiller.org/howtos/kismet-5600.html
I used Kismet 3.0.1 ARM with kismet-qt 2.0.0

I followed the Shirtpocket FAQ for the Seano card by adding:

card "Origo"
version "WLAN", "11Mbps_PC-Card_3.0", "ISL37100P","Eval-RevA"
bind "prism2_cs"

to the wlan-ng.conf. The only thing I changed in the kismet.conf file was the directory for the output files. The process was not without tears, but the problems were all of my own creation. Not a direct answer to your post, but I hope it helps.

I use the Senao card and noticed that the s/n was poor on the 5500. I checked the noise level. It is very high around the top of the unit at about -127dBm/Hz at its peak (-67dBm in 1MHz). This level will reduce the sensitivity by about 20dB or more. An external antenna (even a few inches away) makes a big difference with the Z.

Regards

Thanks very much for the ideas, but I am running Kismet without the GUI frontend (Kismet Qt). I even have Kismet *running* (of sorts!), it's just that it instantly exits !?!? (see above post...Error opening terminal:RXVT)

I *think* that if I could install another terminal prog (preferably Qkonsole, I think) it may open that more successfuly than the pre-installed terminal RXVT.

At the moment, I can't seem to find out where progs are being installed to?
I am getting errors about not having enough "blocks", when trying to install any apps.
I think that everything is being installed into the 16mb flash ram where the OS itself gets put ??
I don't think the space allocated by the zImage file (at flashing ROM time) is being used. I used a zImage file that should set up the 64mb ram as 40mb extra ram & 24mb storage.
It shows up in the system info applet as a second area of flash - one of 16mb (built-in flash rom) = full & the second one as 24mb, set by zImage file, =empty.
Is there a simple way to make sure progs get installed to the allocated storage space correctly?

Thanks very much for any help anyone can offer!

I did have a case where I started the server only and it exit immediately but I can not remember what I was doing wrong at that stage! However, the script that starts the GUI script does enable a dummy WLAN configuration to make sure that the card is turned on:

#!/bin/sh
cardctl scheme CardResume
cardctl scheme qpewlan1 &
kismet_qt
cardctl scheme CardSuspend

Oh, I also have libpcap0 installed

Just ideas, I don't know if they are relevant to OZ, though.

Have you tried the zaurus user group forum?

http://zaurususergroup.com/forums/

You might find something and occasionally you can find someone on irc.

I'd switch to OpenZaurus 3.5.1 first off, just more support and open-ness. I'll be getting my Netgear MA701 CF card sometime this week so I shall be of more help then. Try running it from within Opie in a terminal and you may be able to scroll up to see what's going wrong.
