Knoppix STD .1 is out

Unofficially at this moment, Knoppix STD .1 is out on some mirror sites from http://www.knoppix-std.org

From their forum, it should be fully available later today. That comment is from the creator, T1ck_T0ck.

Just thought ppl would like to know from those of us who have enjoyed STD .1b.

Enjoy

Excellent. Did they post a changelog for it yet? I'm curious as to what they added/took away.

Just looking through the list of included software and i noticed that airsnarf was included.

I'm downloading it now, but if it proves to work, I get the impression that my demonstrations are going to get alot more entertaining if I emulate the venue's captive portal and reveal this info at the end of the presentation.

Damn, where was this in October?

I got the cd for a few bucks from osdisc.com.

Its quite interesting, although it locks up if I boot with the pc card in the slot which is a shame. This issue has been discussed somewhere else I think , so there may be a fix. I might look to see if there is a cheat code or something to get round it.

my distro is std 0.1b

Hey , thats great. Yeah like I said mine was 0.1b I bought the live disc off OSdisc.com. I will definately try and get hold of the .1 distro you mention. I will see if I can find a CD on Google. The download would be a bit heavy as we dont have ADSL connected in the village yet.

I got the 1b version running onthe desktop just to play around with and it looked very interesting. Havent done much linux before but have seen kismet operating and it blew me away. Its quite neat to have a passive stumbler/sniffer program that relies purely on rf and packet activity as I see it will display networks that dont even have the beacon switched on.

Thanks for the info

paul

I kno that fluxbox is cool for a live cd because its small and fast...but I still do like KDE better. Just my 2 cents tho.

Sykojester, just ordered a copy of the new knopix std 0.1.
I am hoping that this release will boot while the pcmcia card is in.
0.1b freezes unless you remove the orinoco gold or use the no pcmcia cheat , which is not much use for stumbling hehe.

Did you get it from osdisc.com?

I've used www.linuxemporium.com (a UK based company) before; they, however, don't carry Knoppix-std. D'oh.

Yeah , I got it from osdisc.com about 20 minutes ago. I got the std 0.1b version off them too. It arrives quite quickly for an overseas store and they are great to deal with.
Havent done much linux, and I know this is not a beginners version but was interested to try kismet.

Hey did you ever read the thread about knoppix causing cd rom failure?? never saw anything more on this so was probably a run of coincidences.

will have to get a Linux for morons book, I did have one somewhere but its from previous attempts to do a HD install in the late 90s.

cheers...paul

Hi ' Others, my std 0.1 disc arrived from osdisc the other day.
As sykojester stated it runs kismet right out of the box. Tested it by detecting the ad-hoc usb client on my desktop, it is quite good fun to play with. I am now busy reading all the n00b linux docs and forums. I kinda like the fluxbox frontend its quite minimalist looking.

Hi, thanks for filling me in on this,

That was quick, I'm seriously thinking of ordering. I've got broadband here, so I could download it easily. I don't have a CDR, however, and nor does anyone else on my LAN. D'oh.

I could do it on my PC that presently lives with my parents, the only problem is that I don't...

Never mind, justice will prevail, I'll have another look at that site.

Good luck with it all and enjoy the reading,

I got just one problem, when I try to configure my wireless card (Dell 1150), the card shuts down when I am trying to get an IP address.
