The least troublesome linux to use ????
There are quite a few programs here to use with Linux for packet sniffing. I am having a hard time deciding which to use. Is there any version that has the most compatability out of the box (or ISO), or, least trouble to use with these programs? What do all you veterns, and anyone else, like?
Thanks |

Knoppix or Knoppix-STD are your best bets. Bootable CD distros with all the tools installed. Knoppix-STD has just about every tool you'd need.

Thanks, I will check them out and at least download them to be ready to use them. I have done a lot of searching here and it is hard to find a post that has users inputs as to which seems to work the best out of the many various programs. Maybe it is just whatever you get used to at the time? But, then again, maybe there is a standard to use? The search does not show much when I type in things like "best linux", or,"most comaptable"...etc.
P.S. I like the knoopix idea and want to check it out, but, I have enough drives and laptops to install something permanantly, so, I like that idea even better, but, if knoopix is more robust........... Last edited by vaginalwallwrec : 11-16-2004 at 01:00 PM. |

Mandrake 10.1 is quite good, but if it supports your card, you
would have a HELL of a time updating it, it no like having its drivers removed, even through its own control panel meb0b. i had to chmod 777 a few dirs to get rid of the old'ns, and then they cropped back. took me 7 1/2 hrs toupdate my centrino drivers from the distros to newest. (0.54 to 1.0.1) mainly due to me being a little bit of a n00b with linux But it was very fun learning about the kernel and modules at the same time. well really it took me 7 hrs to find the info i needed. which was suprise! not in the install file but in the makefile Fun for all the family |
