Linux and Kismet with hostap drivers
I have been trying to get kismet to work under a hard drive installation of Auditor and have had several problems. I updated to the latest version of kismet with 'apt-get install kismet' and it installed the latest version but in the process of installing my normal user account got messed up. I ran apt-get as root so i have no idea why my normal user account got messed up. I noticed this when I ran kismet for the fist time and it gave a fatal error "can not access /home/'user'/ssid_map permission denied". I then chmod 666 /home/'user'/ssid_map but this did not solve the problem.

Any suggestions?
I just want a stable configuration that will work with hostap drivers for my senao 2511CD (prism2).

I just want a stable configuration that will work with hostap drivers for my senao 2511CD (prism2).
AFAIK the standard precompiled debian version of kismet is made witout setuid capability, and has to be run as root. If you want to be able to run kismet from your normal user, you need to either compile kismet from source, or if insisting on using the precompiled debian verion, set your user up in the sudoers list, then start kismet with the sudo command.

I started kismet as root and had my normal user in the kismet.conf (suiduser='user').
