*nix beacon mappers..
Yes, accually the idea was first performed with a BSD script by Peter Shipley. I have seen the script on-line. If you want to try it and have trooble finding it let me know and I'll post the link here. IBM has devolped a linux version, however they are still concidering whether or not to release as open-source, or a commerial product.

Actually, I'm hard at work on a FreeBSD version called FreeStumble. The code is not ready for the public yet, but hopefully will be within the next week or two.
The web site for FreeStumble is a http://www.UiX.com/freestumble/ ... You can check back there to obtain the source once it is released. There is a screenshot that I update often if you want to get a feel for the screen layout, and take a peek at its functionallity. Unfortunatly, this program was written to directly interface with the wi driver. This means that porting it to Linux will be a little bit more difficult, but I will start on that as soon as v1 of FreeStumble is released. CentroniX cent@UiX.com |

bsd-airtools
I've been working on a curses based ap mapping program called dstumbler for a little while that has features similar to netstumbler that wi-scan doesn't have (color ascii s/n graphs, weped ap detection, nifty customizable display, etc). I'm still working out some of the kinks but I should be releasing code for it soon. The bsd-airtools package I've been working on will also include a bsd port of airsnort and some kernel mods to dump 802.11 frames and such. I'm hoping to have some code to release by the end of the weekend, send me a email if you got any suggestions or want to help with any future projects.

Wi Fi Scanner for OpenBSD
Well, here in tulsa we have a program for openBSD lucent drivers written by the 0-day OpenBSD developer Jsyn, It basicly spoofs your OS and your MAC, once it finds an WiFi network it displays the SSID, the quality, strength, noise
also it sets your card to the SSID of that network and takes your card out of AdHOC mode... this is using openbsd 2.9 and wicontrol |

Unix tools
One of the features that I particularly like about 'dstumbler' is that it does _not_ require GTK, X, or any other GUI to compile or run, just 'curses'.
Even better would be an application that supports a strictly command-line mode of operation, with GUI/TUI as an optional mode. A suggestion for 'Freestumble' - I'd be interested in support for _optional_ audible alerts on new/lost contacts, and perhaps a geiger-counter-like signal strength audio output. Probably a good idea for the audio to default to 'disabled'. |

bsd-airtools mailing list
Just wanted to let everyone know that we've just started a mailing list for bsd-airtools for discussion of bsd specific wireless security aspects, technical support, patch submissions for bsd-airtools, and technical issues including coding specifics and raw protocol analysis.
