no ssid on WRT54G in kismet
I upgraded my dsl router from a befw11s4 to a wrt54g both of which have ssid cloaking enabled. Previously the befw11s4 would show up as no ssid for about 5 secs then kismet would pick it up but under the network properties it would say ssid cloaking. Now with the wrt54g it stays as no ssid. Does anyone know if this is a new security feature in the AP. If so is there any way to pick up the ssid on the new routers? I have noticed many around where I live that never show up either.
Thanks, tjc1027 |

Yes, some new routers broadcast a blank ssid instead of not broadcasting it. Windows XP will detect that the network is there, but won't give you the SSID. This makes it more difficult to get the SSID. Kismet will pick up the SSID when a computer connects to it. In either case, NS will not pick up the SSID anyway, so the NS users are hosed. Kismet users will just have to sit there longer.
