Mini HOWTO
Russ Rogers has written a pretty good mini-HOWTO for getting kismet/airsnort working with an Orinoco Gold card in Slackware. I have posted it at www.securitytribe.com/orinoco.html

Ever have those days when you just gotta step away from the computer in order to prevent a mess of parts all over the room?
can't get ORiNOCO into monitor mode...you know...the usual problem. Tried the WRONG DRIVER step though in the first post, but nope. Red Hat 7.3 kernel 2.4.18-3 and/or -5 |

I know what you mean, last night I was trying to get pcmcia-cs 34 working and orinoco_cs refused to cooperate, then all or a sudden it worked, it would've been nice it it decided to do that the first time.
Give us some details. |

everything was fine until i typed iwpriv eth0 monitor 1 6 the response was unknown command or whatever it tells you when it doesn't like the command ![]() i went back to your (jimmy) original post where it said WRONG DRIVER. I hunted around in the config files and changed all the wavelan_cs to orinoco_cs and rebooted. (there is no daemon log in RH....that i found.) still no luck after rebooting...kismet fires up but it doesn't, well, monitor, of course. i went to www.securitytribe.com/orinoco.html to follow the directions there, but, umm, that is where the aggravation really started (compiling a kernel, etc) re-installing RH 7.3 now to start all over. details huh? how about lay man's terms... :P |

Here's another one for you, it's for 7.2 but it should work.

I also found is easier to just reinstall a patched version of pcmcia-cs-3.1.34.
Slackware install seemed to be the least painful. Several people recommended it, and I am VERY GLAD THEY DID! Slackware is far better than RH in my opinion. |

Firmware version...
Go back to Snax's page. He's got the download for an old version of the firmware.. If you're running something newer than 8, go back to the old firmware. I've found that I have the least problems with the 6.X releases of firmware..
