Problems with madwifi monitor mode

Hi
I first posted on the newbie site, but then was suggested to
move to this forum. I made the mistake of reposting the question
exactly, so this time I will rephrase the question.

My goal is to compile madwifi for a DLink-AG650 PCMCIA card
(with the patch to for aircrack).
The card works with BackTrack and Auditor bootable cd's and
use the MadWifi lib. Here follows the steps I took compile
the madwifi driver

->Install Suse10.1
->Download madwifi source from www.madwifi.org
->Dowload madwifi-ng-r1730.patch from http://patches.aircrack-ng.org
->Patch the driver: "patch -Np1 -i ../madwifi-ng-r1730.patch"
->Compile the driver: "make KENRELPATH=/usr/src/linux"
->Run: "make install"
->Run: "depmode -ae"
->Run: "modprobe ath_pci"

When I run iwconfig ath0 is present but when i run
"iwconfig ath0 mode monitor"
I get
"Error for wireless request "Set Mode" (8B06) :
SET failed on device ath0 ; invalid argument"

but with Backtrack or Auditor bootcd, I can change to monitor mode with the same hardware.

On the newbie forum it was suggested that I use the madwifi forum, but
they dont support the patch.

Thnaks for an help

If you read the threads in the Welcome Desk section, you'd see what is supported here at the Netstumbler Forums.

Go to the place that issued the patch, and get support for it there. And they will say that you should READ the included documentation, since it is quite appearent from your post that you didn't read the included documentation, neither for MadWiFi, nor for aircrack-ng.

Thread closed to save Baby Jesus from crying again.

Yes it is possible for me to miss something in the
documentation, but rather than dissing me, refer to
what I missed, or give other the opportunity to correct my error
My reply :
You did not read the MadWifi documentation, otherwise you would have known that you do not use the wireless tools interface to configure the mode of a madwifi controlled wifi adapter.

And you weren't dissed, you were treated just like any other person that expects a spoonfeeding. Especially since you seem to have forgotten to read the rules and guidelines for the forums, as posted in the Welcome Desk section. Go read them, pay particular note to the post regarding what the scope of the Netstumbler forum is.
Going Whisky Mike Papa Hotel and claiming you were dissed, just shows that you need to grow thicker skin, to hang around adults.
