In search of the perfect CPE.
CPE = Customer Premise Equipment.
This device would be placed at a customer's location and provide a radio link to my AP. It would need to then be connected to a customer's network or computer. What I would like to be able to do is to have this device mounted ouside as close to the antenna as possible. Power would be provided over the ethernet cable (PoE) and the same cable would make the network connection to the customer equipment. I would like the device & OS to have: (no order) 1. Watchdog 2. CHEAP (8P 3. NAT 4. CBQ 5. VPN/IPSec (to secure CPE to AP links) 6. RADIUS support for billing/authorizing access/WEP session keys, etc) 7. PCMICA slot for Cisco LMC352 cards or Orinoco Gold cards. 8. Compact Flash (OS storage) 9. DHCP 10. telnet 11. web management for customer use (turn DHCP on/off, etc) 12. SNMP (remote diagnostics, management, etc.) 13. Enough speed 14. Console port 15. USB would be nice for adding "Extras" later. Any thoughts people?! Thanks, Tron Of Borg |

How about a nice SBC?
Check out http://www.soekris.com/ or http://www.embsd.com/. emBSD.com simply resells the soekris boards with a trimmed version of OpenBSD. Soekris.com should have a new version comming out with dual pcmcia sockets, and 2 ethernet ports, one of which supports POE. Soekris also has another model with minipci and pci socket.
