Question Searching for single CD "Live CD" linux distribution with orinoco-13e patched

Searching for single CD "Live CD" linux distribution with orinoco-13e patched
drivers and kismet. Why ? Knoppix StD 1b has orinoco-11 drivers and do not
support orinoco cards with modern firmware. Orinoco-13e drivers work
with all firmware versions. Any ideas ?

Uhhhh Knoppix STD 0.1b DOES support your card. If you read the instructions there is a patch for the driver already there if you look for it (alot of problems can be solved this way *coughRTFMcough*). Also, instead of using an old version of the distro, why not upgrade to 0.1 and that would also fix your problem.

Regular Knoppix 3.4 and 3.6 have patched Orinoco drivers, however you'll may need to modify kismet.conf to use the orinoco card as one of the versions of Knoppix was set up to look for a Cisco card.

Thumbs down

only 13e patched "eats" 8.78, 8.48 and 8.10 frrmware. with other
versions you can swith the card to monitor mode, but it will deliver
nothing. Just flash the card to 8.78 and try. The 5 Version of orinoco can't
be downraded to versions prior to 8.10. I have also hacked the update utility
and flashed to 7.57 but card don't operates normaly, it seems that primary
firmware sitting in 5 Version can't work together with station firmware
lover as 8.10. I have two distros ( Mandrake 9.2 and Suse 9.1 on my laptopts installed and be shure i have tested all possible versions before
asking. Knoppix 1.0 uses 13b or 13c, i forget the version, that are also non-working with latest orinocos. The question was live CD with 13e and kismet and not how to get it working. I can'T check all live cds myself.

Sigh, like I said, You are using an old version of Knoppix STD (0.1b). Download the new version (0.1). It has the already patched driver.

EDIT: Though I despise this distro, PHLAK would probably also work: http://www.phlak.org/

Warlinux should work also.

Oh I forgot about Warlinux. Thats not a half bad distro, especially for bandwidth deprived people.

Check this one:
http://www.remote-exploit.org/?page=auditor

It has the e driver included and even more like aircrack, void11 and so on...
In my opinion this distri is the best especially for wlan issues.

I had the same issue. The .1b is the beta version which is OLDER than the .1 version. Downloading the new version ran kismet with the newest version of Orinoco firmware.

Thank you for the link. I downloaded it and tried it, and in my opinion Knoppix-STD doest hold a candle to it. I really like it for the following reasons:
Uses HostAP drivers (yay i can up my Senao to 249mW)
Kismet works with my card without any aditional configuration
Spiffy wifi config utility
Fast mouse pointer speed (I know its not hard to change it in STD but it was somthing that just bugged me about it)
Applications are very well orginized.

An extract from the changes.txt:

- Included the WLAN-NG drivers for Prism cards. Use "switch-to-wlanng"
command to move from hostap driver to wlanng. To return to hostap use
"switch-to-hostap". Please keep in mind that you need to remove and
reinsert the pcmcia card. This wlanng driver is needed for chopchop
got the patches of chopchop applied.
- Hostap driver has been updated and patched with the aircrack patches
see aircrack documentation

The bash script to change hostap<=>wlanng is very helpful
Instead of removing the pcmcia card you can also just restart the pcmcia daemon via /etc/init.d/pcmcia restart

Bye

Not correct, Knoppix 3.6 has Orinoco 0.15rc2 that do not need to patch to go in monitor but they are pretty nasty drivers.

Still I made it to lauch kismet with those drivers but very bad performances compared to older patched drivers!

I'm not sure about Knoppix 3.4

Sorry about that 3.4 has .13e patched 3.6 has .15rc2 3.4 is the better choice but I think the kismet.conf is set up for cisco so it will have to be changed. This is discussed in the knoppix forums.
