Signal strength/Link quality program

Hello,

I've been using netstumbler for a long time and i'm used to this graph with signal strength/link quality.

I need to use kismet (with gkismet) now under linux and i don't have any link quality graph anymore. I know it sounds a bit ridiculous but it's very helpfull...

I was wondering if you guys know any other program or workaround with gkismet to have this kind of graph.

I tryed wavemon but it's only for one specific network.

There must be a program that has graphic statistics of the receiving signal quality... no?

Anyway, thanks in advance,

cheers,

If your driver reports signal strenght, then you can see it in the standard Kismet client. Open a terminal, start the standard kismet ncurses client, then press h to read the included help. There you'll find the signal strenght hotkey.

You can also change your kismet_client.conf file, to display the signal strength directly in the network list. I'll leave it up to you, as an exercise in reading the documentation, on figuring out how to do that.

Since I run the STD CD Rom and can't directly change config file, I just use the "display info" on the AP that I'm interested in. The signal strenth and noise are updated every few seconds or so.

ok,

That's why I don't have signal strength graph... My default card isn't compatible... :'(

It's a basic intel 2200B/G laptop adapter.

I'll give a try with my pcmcia card (PrismGT) and see if it works.

Thanks

PS: Metl Helix Wireless Grapher looks pretty good too...

Cheers,

Just tryed with my Atheros card and madwifi drivers.

It can, in fact, see the wireless Card Power with *l* key...

But it can only see the power level when selecting a network in the network list.
Lets imagine we have an Ad-Hoc network with three nodes. Each one of them having its own signal/power statistics. You won't be able to have a per node graph. The *l* key is only when in the main window. Even if you choose the Ad-Hoc network, hit on the key "c" to show the clients (nodes), select the client on which you want to get the power/signal graph, you won't be able to hit the 'l' key... to get the graph.

And, it happens that I need to analyze the different nodes (power/noise) of a wireless Ad-Hoc network... :'( The goal is to know at different geographical points if the area is covered by enough or too much nodes (ad-hoc antennas)...

I would greatly appreciate any other tips on how I could do this...

thanks,
