Ubuntu news

Looks like Ubuntu is going mainstream, and the article gives one the feeling that it might charge for the distro

I'm certain that Canonical ltd would like to recoup some of the investments they've done over the years, but I'm equally certain they will not charge for the distro. what they probably will do, is charge for support, training, and possible specialized setups for commercial customers.
The distro we know as Ubuntu today, will remain freely downloadable, or it will violate the linux Kernel and all the GNU tools licenses.

Ubuntu will always be free to download and use. This isn't really news for me since I've been watching them before Canonical picked them up. They already charge for commercial support though:

But then again, the forums are quite excellent for support and people seem to be doing a lot* more with it.

*Look streaker I typed "a lot" not alot!
